How I feel about this character: I’m a fan of Jesus’ story. It’s like a year one story, and people take what they need from it - which is, essentially, the basis for most of the Semitic religious doctrine. I think the religious Jesus and the historical one are quite different, but the layers of meaning and sacredness that have been given to him has eliminated the element of historical accuracy in our depiticion of Yeesus, so now we’re left with the church’s perspective - the one it wants us to see. I’d love to know the truth of his life - not because it would change anything, but simply to match truth to myth.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Where my sweet scarlet lady Mary Magdalene AT? Sometimes I think all the people who didn’t follow Jesus considered him a nutso, and so the whores and theives were the only ones game enough to chill with him.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Juuuudas. I would’ve gone John the Baptist because they’ve got an epic Biblical bromance going on, but the Jesus/Judas relationship is just so awesome and complex that I couldn’t not choose it. There are people who think that Judas betrayed Yeesus for the good of the country, making him a freedom fighter - and there are others who think Jesus knew that Judas would betray him, making their interactions up to and during The Last Supper take on new meanings.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Let’s be real here: Jesus of Nazareth was not a white dude. He didn’t look like a van Halen guitarist wearing hippie robes. The man was Middle Eastern, and no one in ancient Israel was born looking like Chad Kroger. 1500 years of Church imagery makes this an unpopular opinion.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Not big on resurrection. Like idk it feels like such a desperate move of the gospels to try and insert the element of the holy into the Jesus narrative, but it’s really already there? HE DIED FOR YOUR SINS, GUYS. KEEP HIM DEAD.
